Residence pathway for personal care workers

If you are personal care giver or worker, you may have pathway residence once you have lived and worked in New Zealand for two years. The occupations eligible under this pathway includes Nursing support workers, Residential care officer, Aged or disabled carers, personal care assistant, therapy aide,  child or youth residential care assistant, diversional care assistant etc.

The requirements are:-


  • You must hold an accredited employer work visa
  • Your employment must be permanent, full-time with at least 30 hours per week. 
  • Your must be paid at or above the Level 4 rate per hour as applicable to care workforce sector (The current rate is $28.25)
  • You must have completed 24 months of employment under an accredited employer
  • You must be less than 55 years of age at the time of residence application 
  • The residence application must be made within 6 months of completing the 24 month period.
  • You must meet health and character requirements
  • You must meet English language requirements (6.5 in IELTS, 58 in PTE). Some exceptions apply such as citizens of Canada , Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom, United States of America who have lived in those countries for five years or have level 7 bachelor’s degrees or post graduate qualifications need not provide English language test results)
